Meet Angelique McClendon

          General Counsel, Legal Services

A native Atlantan, who attended Xavier University of Louisiana (a historically black university),
loves her family, history, and Hip Hop, opens up to the DDS Scoop!

When did you start at DDS and where did you work prior to coming here?
I started at DDS in September of 2015. Prior to coming on board at DDS, I advised DDS and other
Public Safety agencies as an Assistant Attorney General from 2008-2015. I started my career as
a prosecutor in the Dekalb County Solicitor’s Office.

What exactly is a General Counsel and what is your role at DDS?
As General Counsel, I manage the Legal Division at DDS. As a team, the Legal Division is involved
in almost all aspects of all divisions at DDS. We advise the agency on legal matters related to
matters of employment, contracts, regulatory, Secure ID, legislative, court, and other issues that
involve legal interpretation or implementation. DDS is an agency whose entire process and
procedures are driven by state or federal law, so we are a very active legal department.

Why did you go into the field of law?
I wanted to be an entertainment lawyer, then an intellectual property lawyer. I needed to go
to grad school to maximize opportunities with my undergrad degree (Chemistry). I did not want
