What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment so far as Commissioner?

My greatest accomplishment thus far is establishing core values that represent the vast majority
of the agency. They serve as the roadmap to accomplishing the DDS mission. I recently was able
to address our core values with a NEO class and make sure that they understood what they
mean. I looked around the room and saw them acknowledge with nodding heads that they
understood. Since that time, I’ve traveled as far south as Thomasville and as far north as Blue
Ridge and our TEAM has embraced these values – that is a great feeling of accomplishment for
me. We are in this together. #OneTeamOneMission!

What is one thing that you want all DDS Team Members to know about you as their
Commissioner?

I prioritize things in my life and my first priority is God, followed by my family, and then all else,
including work. I am very guided by my experience growing up in rural Middle Georgia – Orianna
is the unincorporated community where I grew up. It is a farm community built on hard work,
commitment to God and family, and values that instill humility and a sense of pride. I’d like
people to know that I am relatable; I am higher on leadership versus hierarchy.

What hobbies or interests do you enjoy away from the office?

Golf! As a former athlete, it’s about the only sport that I continue to play that doesn’t take away
from past injuries. I also enjoy teaching and coaching softball to my daughter. She’s 12 and
enjoys the game, excelling as an all-star at this point. Also, being a father to my daughter and
making sure that she learns the things in life are the same things that were taught to me by my
parents.

What keeps you going each day?

People! I am motivated by the desire to help, promote, and lift up people. To give others the
opportunity to reap a few of the blessings that I have been fortunate to receive. Not simply in
title or things like that, but I want them to believe in themselves and get to the next level in their
lives. We have a great workforce and great employees, some need encouragement to reach new
heights in their careers and in family life. Any way that I can help them achieve their dreams is
my goal. This has been done for me, and I simply want to do the same for others.

What is your favorite snack food?

Ice cream, I am an ice cream fanatic – I love butter pecan! My Dad has always loved ice cream
so I got that from him. His favorite is black walnut. I have been known to make ice cream a meal!
