Story Highlights and Impact 2024

The Kosher I n September 2023, Shomrim published a detailed investigation into
Slaughter systemic failures in the oversight of kosher slaughter operations
Industry Abroad: abroad, supervised by Israel’s Chief Rabbinate. The investigation
Cash Payments revealed that hundreds of kosher inspectors, who travel overseas
primarily before major Jewish holidays, were receiving substantial
and Oversight portions of their salaries in cash, bypassing proper oversight and tax
              Failures regulations.

Shuki Sadeh Impact: In March 2024, following Shomrim’s exposé, the Israeli Tax
Authority announced it had launched an official investigation into
cash payments made to kosher slaughter inspectors abroad. This
development marked a significant step toward addressing financial
irregularities and ensuring greater transparency in one of Israel’s
                                              most sensitive food supply chains.

Investigative journalism is not just a profession; it’s a pillar
of democracy. As the media landscape erodes and scrutiny
weakens, Shomrim not only keeps the fire burning—it leads the way,
setting a standard for fearless, uncompromising reporting.”
