P. 20
there are only two kinds of people in the world, the unrighteous who
know their wicked and the unrighteous who think their good. When you
think about it for a moment, if God began to answer that prayer – Lord,
blow the chaff away – then where would I be? Where would you be?
None of us are completely righteous like it describes in that Psalm.
Editors note:
A few years ago the Lord was showing me that on Calvary’s hill is a
simple and all inclusive picture of God’s salvation. One image that
contained all the truth of the Lord’s redemptive plan for mankind. We
see three crosses. All of humanity is represented by two thieves.
Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become
unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
In the center the God-man, perfect Lamb of God our substitute and
redeemer. Every human being is either one thief or the other. One I
like to call a “believer”. He calls upon Jesus to save Himself but most of
all him. He just wants a way out, he is a prosperity Christian. The other
thief I like to call a “follower”. He rebukes the self-centered thief,
confesses his unworthiness, honors Jesus and simply desires to follow
his Lord in a well deserved death. The enemy is a “believer”, many
stubborn people even Bible heroes were believers. What God’s
enemies won’t do is follow, they won’t bow the knee. All blessings and
union with the Lord comes from following our Great Shepherd. Because
the Lord is my Shepherd I have everything I need. “Today you will be
with me in paradise”.
I think if God started blowing chaff we would all have to hold onto our
hats because there is chaff in every one of us. There is only one person
who this Psalm can apply to in an unlimited and an absolute way, and
that is our Lord Jesus. He is the only righteous One. He never walked
in the path of the sinner. He never walked in the counsel of the ungodly.
He never sat in the seat of the scornful.
You say, what a wonderful Psalm; it applies to Abraham. No, he would
have been blown away. You see, he lied about his wife and took things
into his own hands with Hagar. You say, oh, it applies to Moses. No, he
would blow away, too. He murdered a man and trusted his own strength
many times. You say, well, David is a man after God’s heart. Well, you
know it did not apply to him. He committed adultery, murder and many
