Johns Hopkins Partners With Gozio Health for Mobile Wayfinding Application
In an effort to deliver an exceptional patient and family experience, Johns Hopkins Medicine has
partnered with Gozio Health to implement its smartphone-based indoor positioning and wayfinding
platform for Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Using GPS-like
guidance, the tool will provide the user with step-by-step directions to any destination within each
hospital and surrounding campuses using their smartphones.
Indoor navigation, or wayfinding, is extremely difficult as the physical structure of modern buildings
distorts and blocks GPS signals. Using a patent-pending sensor fusion technology, Gozio combines data
from a smartphone’s electromagnetic, motion and orientation sensors to provide accuracy without
expensive building infrastructure upgrades.
Johns Hopkins Bayview will implement the app first, and on September 3, a Gozio team, along with a
mapping robot, Magellan, will start mapping our hallways. While Magellan is a slow, peaceful and jovial
robot, the team asks that you do not touch him so that he can stay focused on his work. Expect to see
Magellan and his team Monday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. for the next few weeks
