Summary of Overnight Stays
There are several methods for calculating the number of annual overnight stays that water-based recreation might generate. The method presented here is one of the most
straightforward procedures. Annual overnight stays are calculated by creating an average annual number of stays based on the survey response. For example, “about once or
twice per month is averaged at 1.5 times per month or 18 times per year. The average annual number of stays is multiplied by the total population that the group represents, and
then multiplied by the percentage of respondents who stay over that number of times.
