RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ADVISORY BOARD (continued)
Section 3: Planning & Evaluation
The responsibility for Planning and Evaluation is a shared (with staff) function of the Center Advisory
Board. Each Advisory Board shall:
1. Develop an annual plan (June 1 – May 31) to guide the advisory board’s chart of work that shall focus
on meeting the needs of the community, membership and core program areas consistent with the
association strategic plan. The Annual Plan will establish goals that:
a. Align with the Y pillars of focus (youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility)
b. Have significant and direct impact on the community
c. Utilizes a Strategic Assessment Tool (template in appendix) to evaluate the relevance of
initiatives, projects, and events.
d. Develops a dashboard to monitor progress to the annual plan and established goals.
2. To develop annual objectives for each of the standing committees of Advisory Board.
3. To fully participate in the Association long-term planning process (i.e. Strategic plan) as directed by
the President/CEO.
Section 4: Communication & Advocacy
The responsibility for Communication and Advocacy is a
shared function of the Center Executive and Advisory Board.

relationships by active participation in activities that are in
line with the mission and goals of the Y.
To advocate for local, state, and federal legislation
beneficial to the YMCA as approved by President/CEO
Ensure that the mission of the Y and the work of Center is
widely known to internal and external audiences.
Assist and support the cultivation and relationship
building with other private and public organizations in
the community who align with the Y core values.
Section 5: Building, Facilities, and Physical Resources
Building, Facilities and Physical Resources are the responsibility of the Center Executive and the
Association Property Management Department. Major facility enhancements and long range planning is
the responsibility of the Association Property Committee (assigned by the Governance Board).
