School in rural Cambodia. This essential education program is providing
elementary school to over 180 children now, many who live in intense poverty or
even dangerous situations. When we first visited the local landfill site, our hearts
were broken seeing children working as scavengers all day versus getting any
type of education. An LWB tuk tuk now picks up all the children at the dumpsite
and the most remote villages each day and brings them to full-day school in
Rangsei. They also receive a hot lunch daily as part of the program, which for
many of the children is often their only meal of the day. We are still working on
building monthly sponsors to this program, and so LWB general funds have been
crucial in providing these children with schooling, nutrition, and safety.
Amy Eldridge, LWB’s main director, traveled to China in March to visit several of
our programs and to meet with government officials about potential new projects
in 2018. LWB is one of the few foreign NGOs who have successfully registered
under the new national laws there, and that has opened up a lot of exciting new
possibilities regarding both orphaned child care and helping children in poverty.
