Simple Ways to Go Greener this Holiday Season

        It’s surprising to imagine that
        between Thanksgiving and New
        Year’s, Americans throw away
a million extra tons of garbage
        each week. With holiday season
around the corner, now is the
        perfect me to start thinking
of some simple ways to enjoy a
        more environmentally-friendly
        celebra on.

        1. Go Greener with Gi -Buying:
        Consider giving the gi of
        ‘experiences’ over packaged
goods, off ering po ed plants
                                                                 3. Prevent Food Waste:
and gardening bulbs, sharing homemade goodies, or Share holiday le overs with family, neighbors, and
off ering ba ery-free toys for kids.
friends; store le overs in the freezer; and explore
        2. Get Crea ve with Wrapping Paper: fun and fes ve holiday le over recipes.
Even be er than recyclable paper would be 4. Try LED Holiday Lights:
wrapping presents with reusable items like scarves
Since they use up to 95% less energy than tradi onal
and fabrics; repurposing junk mail, maps, posters, holiday bulbs, LED holiday lights are a great eco-
and old calendars; or giving gi s in reusable friendly alterna ve that s ll brings the fes ve glow
        shopping bags.
                                                                 of the season.
                                                                 5. Reuse and Recycle:
From recycling old electronics, to reusing paper
and bows, and recycling the Christmas tree for
compos ng, there are many ways to rethink
                                                                 recycling throughout the holidays.

As @zerowastechef Anne Marie Bonneau shares,
“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero
waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it
                                                                 imperfectly.”
