Page 5 - Fairy one hour
P. 5
Ask the birthday boy/girl if they would like to be the next Naughty Goblin. If they say no, choose someone with their hand up who managed to escape you. Remind the next Naughty Goblin that when you sing “The Naughty Goblin’s chasing” they must catch as many fairies as possible. Repeat and then choose a child who “managed to escape” to be the next Naughty Goblin (otherwise they’ll all just be caught on purpose). Repeat as many times as necessary (for example if there is no pass the parcel and/or not many children you may get through the activities quickly and so extend this one, or if you are running behind you could perform the activity just two or three times).
11. PASS THE PARCEL: ‘Fly to Your Heart’ performed by Selena Gomez (if requested)
Make it clear to the children before you play the game that “everybody gets a turn.” Play the track and the children pass the parcel around in a circle. When you pause the music, the child holding the parcel opens a layer and keeps the gift inside. Use a remote control to pause the music so you can help the younger children pass the parcel and open it when it is their turn. The children can eat their treat, put it in their pocket or give it to an adult to mind so that it does not distract them from the rest of the party.
12. ACTION GAME: ‘Fairies’
Fairy magic = wave imaginary wand and say “abracadabra”
Fairy friends = find a friend, hold hands, spin around and say “whee!”
Hiding fairies = silently curl up in a ball on the floor
Flying fairies = run on the spot on tippy toes, move arms like wings and say “whoosh, whoosh, whoosh”
Fairy jumps = stand with heels together and toes pointed away (feet in 1st position), put hands on hips, jump three times on the spot as you say “boing, boing, boing”
a) “To be like a fairy you have to be very clever so now we’re going to play a game to see how strong and clever your brains are today. Every time I say ‘Fairy magic’ you have to remember to say, ‘abracadabra’.” Demonstrate the action listed above as you say the magic word. Then, you say ‘Fairy magic’ and the children wave their imaginary wands as they say ‘abracadabra’. Practice several times.
b) One by one add in the rest of the characters listed above. Make sure to mix up the order in which you are saying the character names as you teach the game.
c) At first, do all the actions and sounds with the children.
d) When they have got the hang of it, you tell them you are now watching to see if
they can be really clever and remember all of the sounds and actions without
your help.
e) Lots of energy!
13. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE TWO: ‘Fairy Dancing’ performed by The Fairies
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
“It’s time for you to learn my favourite fairy dance.” Hand each girl a wand and each boy a sword and practice the tricky moves. Play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
14. GIVE THE BIRTHDAY CARD: ‘Happy Birthday’ by Traditional
Give the birthday boy/girl their card, read it aloud and sing the traditional ‘Happy Birthday’ song acapella.
15. BUBBLES: ‘Look How High We Can Fly’ from the film ‘Barbie: The Princess & The Popstar’
Play the song and use your bubble machine to create lots of bubbles for the children to pop. You should dance as you do this.
16. PRIZES: ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ performed by The Hit Crew
Play the track and give each child some magic sparkles and a Haribo treat. Once you’ve packed up remember to ask the parents if you can put a party flyer in each of the party bags and if you can have a photo with the birthday child.
