4.6.5 Mechanical Extract to Toilets

The mechanical extract ventilation of internal
toilets should be controlled by the light switch,
being interlinked with the extract fan timer to
give minimum 15l/s air change with 20 minute
overrun. All fittings to have anti-vibration
mountings where appropriate.

Design of mechanical extract to customer and/
or staff toilets should be considered in relation
to the Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare)
Regulations 1992 (2013 Edn) Paragraph 205 of
these regulations states; ‘Any room containing a
toilet should be well ventilated, so that offensive
odours do not linger. Measures should also be
taken to prevent odours entering other rooms.
It should not be possible for air from a room
containing a toilet to enter a room where food
is processed, prepared or eaten.’

4.6.6 Mechanical Extract to Internal Rooms

All internal rooms to be provided with forced
ventilation, either via external fan and ductwork,
or by independent local wall mounted fans. To
comply with ADF (2006). i.e. 10 l/s/person All
fittings to have anti-vibration mountings where
appropriate.
