Scholarship Recipient Sydney Johnson is an honors student,
graduating from the Engineering, Science University Magnet School in Connecticut. During her high
school career, she has held several leadership positions, including President of ESUMS Student
Council, Jr. Class President, Sophomore Vice President, Varsity Volleyball Captain, President of
NSBE Jr., and City-wide Student Representative.
Her weighted GPA is 4.555. She has been able to attend college during her high school years and
has earned 6 credits from Yale University and the University of Connecticut. She has been a member
of Jack and Jill for nine years, in both the New Haven and Inland Empire, CA Chapters. She is the
former Teen Treasurer and currently serves as Recording Secretary.
Sydney volunteers her time with her church’s clothes closet, and women’s access, and social justice
issues. She enjoys design and is an avid seamstress, masking masks for friends and family during
the pandemic.
Sydney plans to attend college and major in Architecture with a minor in Environmental Studies and
Industrial Design. She is currently undecided on a college. She resides in New Haven with her family.
