Person of the Year
Jack Bryant was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut
and considered himself a Servant of God. The idea of servanthood to
Jack is to humble yourself, submit to God, and meet the needs of
others.
Jack’s path of servanthood started in his church, Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in
Stamford, working with the youth not only inside the church, but more importantly, outside the church.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
Working with those youth led him to be appointed the position of Youth Advisor for the Progressive
National Baptist Convention, Eastern Region. God also wanted him to remain focused on the youth of
Stamford so he made it possible for him to receive the servanthood of Youth Advisor for the Stamford
NAACP.
He continued his path of servanthood when he began to rise in position within the Stamford NAACP where
he served in the capacity of President for 10 years. In addition, Jack has also served on the Connecticut
State NAACP Conference of Branches as 2nd Vice President. His servanthood did not stop there. Jack was
selected to the Diaconate Ministry of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.
Jack Bryant attended Wilberforce University in Ohio and Westchester Business Institute in White Plains,
NY. However, Jack felt he needed to work on his spiritual relationship with young people so he completed a
2 year program at New York Theological Seminary. Jack described his time at the New York Theological
Seminary as the most important education he has received. This education was helpful in giving Jack the
ability to talk to youth both in and out of the church about Christ. The experience at New York Theological
Seminary opened his eyes to the wonders of God and Jack often described himself to his church family as a
"Potter’s Wheel Christian". Jack was devoted to remaining on Gods Potter’s Wheel and always relied on
Philippians 4:13......”I can do all things through him who strengthens me”. Jack gave his life to God and
strived to be shaped and molded more like Jesus.
Jack was the proud father of a son and 2 daughters. Jamar (Stamford Public Schools Teacher), Jasmine
(Early Childhood Development), Brittany (Physician - Anesthesiologist) and 4 precious grands, Sydney,
London, Saige, and Noah. Jack also considered himself an Uncle to many youth of the community as he
served on the WEEACT Inc. Board as Vice President and Chaperone traveling to visit Historically Black
Colleges and Universities every year.
At the time of Jack’s death, he proudly served on the Stamford Board of Education where his goal was to
erase not what he called an achievement gap but an opportunity gap. Jack had a passion to speak up for
people who don’t have a voice; our children in this case. His dedicated commitment and service to the
Stamford community and its youth will forever be missed.
