me. Because Vietminh had started closing the firebase, some

miles, and the soldiers were closely watching their lives in

Nguyen left a letter on the table, ran toward the front door
while he called his sister.

"Sister My-Thanh."

"I am here. What are you doing...?"

"I called you... that all."

"But you were loud."

"I thought you do not hear my call. And..."

"Yes, I heard your call." My-Thanh interrupted, she looked
at Nguyen and added: "And...what...?"

Nguyen gave a quick look at his sister.

"I read his letter, but I did not understand what he had
written about!"

"Mom was crying while she read his letter. So she let me
read it for her. I did not understand either. I only knew she was
so painful and sobbing. She fell on her bed to cry. It seemed she
did not hear what I read!" In a low voice, My-Thanh explained.
