COURSE: SPANISH I COURSE CODE: GSP1 PREREQUISITE: NONE
YEAR COURSE: 10 credits GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12 UC/CSU-Subject E
This course is an introduction to the Spanish language and culture. The student develops the skills of correct pronunciation through aural-oral drill with a selected active vocabulary, accurate comprehension of the printed word, and usage of vocabulary and grammar in elementary composition and conversation. Students will be expected to read, write and speak in Spanish.
It is highly recommended that a student achieve a “B” grade or higher to advance to the next level due to the difficulty of the material.
COURSE: SPANISH II YEAR COURSE: 10 credits COURSE CODE: GSP2 GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12 PREREQUISITE: A grade of “C” or better in Spanish I UC/CSU-Subject E
This course is designed to supplement and reinforce the first level. The student begins a more intensive study of the grammar, literature, culture and vocabulary in context. Students will study the present, past and future tenses as well as command forms. Oral proficiency is an integral part of this course. The majority of the class will be taught in Spanish. Students will be expected to read, write and speak in Spanish.
It is strongly recommended that a student achieve a “B” grade or higher to advance to the next level due to the difficulty of the material.

Spanish III initiates an in-depth study of the Spanish language and culture. The four language aims of reading, writing, listening, and speaking are interrelated and intensified. The student is required to express his own thoughts in the target language in greater detail and with more abstract conceptions. The study of vocabulary and idiomatic expressions are emphasized. This course is conducted in the target language and oral proficiency is an integral part of this course. Almost all tenses taught in Spanish II are introduced and reviewed. The subjunctive mood is studied. The class will be taught in Spanish. Students will be expected to read, write and speak in Spanish.
