Students who earn a “C” or below in Math 8/pre-Algebra will be placed either into Algebra I, Algebra I with support, or three semester Algebra I (if offered). The decision will be based on multiple measures which include but are not limited to grades, teacher recommendation, and mathematical assessments.
Students who earn a “C” or below in 8th grade Algebra will be placed into Algebra I in the 9th grade. If the student wishes to advance to Geometry the student can submit a waiver request for site review.
UC/CSU-Subject C
This course introduces the student to the concept of variables and emphasizes problem-solving skills. Topics include solving linear equations, solving and graphing inequalities, graphing on a coordinate plane, solving systems of equations, factoring, operating with polynomials, rational expressions, radicals and solving quadratic equations. Selected topics from trigonometry, probability, & statistics are also introduced. Applications are emphasized throughout the course.
