P. 74
COURSE CODE: MDPJ GRADES: 9, 10
PREREQUISITE: A grade of “B” or better in both semesters of 8th grade Algebra I H or a grade of “A” in both semesters of Algebra I with teacher recommendation.
UC/CSU-Subject C
Geometry Honors follows the same objectives as outlined in Geometry but in more depth and at a faster pace. The Honors Geometry course will cover the same chapters from the textbook as the college prep Geometry course. However, students should expect more in depth homework assignments with higher level problems that involve more critical thinking, analyzing, and problem solving. Exams in the honors course will also be longer and more challenging. The honors course covers geometry more in depth and students are expected to keep up with the pacing and the higher level of critical thinking that is necessary.
COURSE: ALGEBRA 2 AB YEAR COURSE: 10 credits
COURSE CODE: MEIA GRADES: 11, 12
PREREQUISITE: A grade of “C” or better in every semester of Algebra I & Geometry OR Algebra I A, B, C and Geometry A, B, C UC/CSU-Subject C
This course is a UC/CSU subject approved course. This course is taken after the successful completion of both Algebra I and Geometry. It continues to develop the algebraic concepts introduced in the prerequisite courses. In addition, the course introduces new topics including more advanced functions, inverses, complex numbers, logarithmic and exponential functions, conics, matrices, probability, statistics, sequences and series. Logic and problem solving skills are developed. The emphasis for this course is a clear understanding of the essential concepts of the above topics without the more rigorous in-depth development presented in Algebra II. A graphing utility may be used as a problem-solving tool. This course is intended for students not wishing to pursue further advanced courses in math or science at the high school level. Students have the option to continue to Finite Math and/or Statistics P. It does not satisfy the “Algebra II” prerequisite for Math Analysis, Statistics AP, or Computer Science AP.
COURSE: ALGEBRA II YEAR COURSE: 10 credits
COURSE CODE: MEP2 GRADES: 10, 11, 12
PREREQUISITE: A grade of “C” or better in every semester of Algebra I & Geometry. Students from the 3-semester program must receive an A in both semesters of Geometry BC.
UC/CSU-Subject C
This course is taken after the successful completion of both Algebra I and Geometry. It continues to develop the algebraic concepts introduced in the prerequisite courses in a rigorous in-depth manner. In addition, the course introduces new topics including functions, inverses, complex numbers, logarithmic and exponential functions, conics, matrices, probability, statistics, sequences and series. Logic and problem-solving skills are developed. The graphing calculator may be used as a problem solving tool. This course is intended for motivated math students wishing to pursue further courses in math or science. It satisfies the “Algebra II” prerequisite for all such courses.
COURSE: ALGEBRA II HONORS YEAR COURSE: 10 credits
COURSE CODE: MEPJ GRADES: 10, 11, 12
PREREQUISITE: A grade of “B” or better in both semester of Geometry Honors OR a grade of “A” both semesters of Geometry wit teacher recommendation.
