Rotary Magazine for District 1210
The pandemic delayed final of the
2019/2020 district snooker
competition between The Rotary
Clubs of The Wrekin and
Cannock took place on Tuesday
27th July at Stallings Road
Snooker Hall, Wall Heath.
In a match that wasn’t decided
until the final frame, Cannock
were the winners 5-4. Rotarian
Brian Reilly, District Governor in
the 2019/20 Rotary year,
presented the trophy to the
victorious team.
Having endured delays due to COVID-19, the final
of the 2019/20 District Table Tennis competition
was played on Monday 16th August when the
Rotary Club of Leek faced the Rotary Club of
Walsall.
The Leek club have won the competition on
numerous occasions and were once again the
victors. Past District Governor Brian Reilly
presented the shield to Leek (on the right in the photograph).
Nine inspirational finalists, together with their nominators and guests, attended an awards evening,
hosted by the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Cllr. Greg Brackenridge to celebrate their outstanding good
citizenship.
The winners were Parwiz Karimi, who
founded the Afghan Youth Association to
help young Afghan refugees to integrate
into the British way of Life, Lucy Palin who
founded and runs Project Give which
tackles period poverty in the City and Dylan
Wright for leadership and voluntary work.
Other finalists were Dhavina Chadha,
Caitlin Jefferis, Louis Johnson. Alex
Parker, Aijon Brown and Syed Naqvi.
These awards are now in their seventh year.
They are sponsored and run by the four
Rotary clubs in Wolverhampton in
partnership with the City Council, Express
and Star and Wolverhampton Wanderers
Foundation.
