snap him up. Make sure you look at the charts to see what’s happened over seven days, and
               one month, and check the price a player peaked at, to give you an idea of past performance
               and potential. Try to work out why the price had been rising: Transfer rumour? Big Fixture?
               Value ahead of a Champions League game? If you can work out why the price has dropped –
               perhaps it’s an injury – you can determine if it’s likely to bounce back quickly, or more likely
               to fall some more.


               3. RUMOURS

               We can sum up the third market-driver like this: “Buy the rumour. Sell the story.” A decent
               rumour always makes the market at least flinch upwards.

               What qualifies? Transfer rumours. Team sheet rumours. Internal team issue rumours (think
               Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw). These will all make the market move in your favour.
               But when the rumours end prices begin to fall, which means you need good timing. You want
               to get in at or near the beginning of a rumour-fuelled rise to take full advantage – and get the
               hell out before the story dies down.
                One thing we noticed last transfer season, incidentally, is that fake news from less-than-
               mainstream-media definitely impacts prices. When you’re looking for the latest rumours start
               by checking out players on today’s Media Buzz list. Ousmane Dembele might be propping up
               the table with only 20 points right now . . . but what if that’s because a story linking him with
               Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid has just been published?


               4. BIG GAMES, BIG PLAYERS & EASY MATCHES

               Football Index traders are football fans and we like big games almost as much as we like
               making money. Top clashes always move the market because watching elite players while
               noticing your portfolio is increasing in value is twice the fun.

               Equally if a strong team is playing a struggling team then the strong team players will likely
               increase in value – their players are expected to pick up those precious MB and PB points.


               Pay particular attention to:

                    • Big name players in big name teams

                    • World Cup
                    • Champions League & Europa League

                    • International friendlies and tournaments
                    • Cup Finals

                    • Top 6 head-to-head
                    • Relegation six-pointers

                    Top of the league v Bottom of the league
