DAY ONE: FRIDAY

So here we are with £100 in the account and an itchy trigger figure. But before placing our
first trade, there’s work to be done. After a spot of research, we find our man:

               TRADE 1: 10 Jamie Vardy at £1.02 (£10.20)

The V in Vardy was standing for VALUE. On the seven-day chart, we saw Vardy had peaked
at £1.50, gone as low as £1.15 and averaged round £1.30. (We could see his price had been
driven by two England friendlies, BIG GAMES). Now the World Cup warm-up was over
and Vardy was down to £1.02 – 13p cheaper than even his lowest price and with every chance
of returning to £1.50 once World Cup fever kicks in again. We’re up and running!

               TRADE 2: 5 Robert Lewandowski at £3.51 (£17.51)
Bundesliga games don’t come bigger than Bayern Munich v Dortmund which happens
tomorrow. Lots of traders are going to get involved, and sooner is better than later. Why
               Lewa?

                   • Big name player: He’s Bayern’s star forward, which means extra pre-match attention
and a bigger price movement if he does well. Usually does well on PB when he
                       scores, which attracts Dividend traders.

                   • Big Fixtures still to come. Bayern are still in the Champions League and Lewa’s going
                       to the World Cup.

               TRADE 3: 10 Filipe Luis at 76p (£7.60)
Our first trade from The Squad is driven by rumours. The Atletico Madrid defender has been
as high as £1.18 but is predicted to be out till next season after a bad injury, prompting a big
sell-off. But now fresh rumours say he’s back in ‘light training’ and we’re fortunate to catch
these almost as soon as they appear online. We hope for a quick rise when others read the
news and buy on the basis Luis can still make it to the World Cup.

               Rumour tips
                   • Aggressive price movements usually happen within the first hour

                   • If a player’s already on the risers board you’re almost certainly too late to make quick
                       cash

                   • You think it’s a rubbish rumour? Doesn’t matter! Others will believe it. (Prime example
that understanding the market is more important than football knowledge.)
Because Luis has plummeted in price only due to injury his price now was value. He doesn’t
hang about in our portfolio very long because within a few hours he’s up to 89p. We’ll take
that and get out before fickle traders are on the next rumour.
