                                                                    coloured learners (98%), they
                                                                    speak Afrikaans as their home
                                                                    language. There are 2% African
                                                                    learners. Most come from
disadvantaged backgrounds. Most parents are unemployed, depend on social
grants and some are drug addicts. Some of the parents are in jail, therefore, are not
present in their children’s lives, this then leads to learner’s bad behaviour.

Some of our learners are part of gangs, smoke drugs and commit crime. It seems as
if learners do not know what education is and its aims, thus, do not see the need of

being educated. They are in school because they want to have matric for employment
purposes, since most companies have matric as first and important requirement. It

is believed that learners are part of gangs because of lack of support from their
parents; learners join gangs because of want to get some sort of belonging and to get
money to support their families and or to look after themselves. Well, some may be

involved in crime acts because they are just being children and, ‘children learn what
they live’. There is correlation between poor home background and poor educational

performance. Underprivileged financial background and lack of parent involvement
negatively affects the school and the educational performance of children.

                                            The school

The school buildings are still in a good condition; However, some classes would need

to be renovated as well as the furniture used might need to be replaced with the new
ones. The other disadvantage that the school might have is that it does not

accommodate all learners. There are ramps at the school which might help learners
with wheel chairs. This means that the school does not accommodate learners with

special needs, as there are stairs around the school instead of ramps

The school has resources that are most commonly seen as having an impact on
               instructional capability, but not enough.
