Sienna started to cry. Finally she said, “My brothers are both gone. That dead bitch killed them in cold blood! How could she do that!”
“That’s what she does,” said Visara. “Pops up, kills indis- criminately, and disappears.”
“I’ll bet her ass won’t kill anymore,” said Sienna, sniffling.
“Well, you’re right about that. But it’s time to go.” Visara took Sienna over to a water faucet in back of the neighbor’s house.
“Here. Start washing up. Put on my jacket, and take off this shirt. I’ll hold your rucksack.”
Folding Sienna’s shirt, Visara felt items inside.
“What’s this?” she inquired.
“Oh. Those are my top-secret files. I must have those. Put
them in my rucksack,” she said washing the tears from her eyes. “Come on. Follow me,” Visara commanded, as she went
around the neighbor’s house and toward her car.
“That shot is going to bring more cops around here than we
can count. Okay, here’s what’s going to happen. I’m going to take you to a safe place. Then I’ll go and get your mother.”
“But I need to go into the house and see what else that bitch did.”
“No way. If she killed your brothers that means your whole family is on someone’s list and we have to let them think you are dead in the meantime. Just be thankful you got out! How did you manage that, anyway?”
I was putting the guy’s stuff away upstairs, and this lady came in and killed them. If I hadn’t come downstairs fighting, she would have killed me too. You know Visara; you’re the older sister I was supposed to have. And I usually get in trouble whenever I get into a fight. But if you hadn’t taught me those skills, I would be lying alongside my little brothers. Oh my God! It’s probably time for Jen to be coming home. She can’t come in and find the boys like that. It would kill her for sure!”
“Hold on, let me call her. I’ll bring the car around. You stay down no telling who else might be around.
