“Hello, Law Office of Key and Associates, a voice announced.
“I need to speak to Jennifer Key please. It’s an emergency,” Visara said.
She was told to hold, but a second later, the line went dead with a click.
“I can’t believe this. How can people be so stupid!”
She hit the redial button.
“Hello, Law . . .” the voice started to say.
“I know what office it is! You just hung up in my face not 10
seconds ago,” Visara screamed. Lay the phone down and get Mrs. Key. Now! It’s urgent police business.
I’m sorry ma’am. I didn’t mean to hang up on you. It’s just . . .” “Stop!” I don’t have time to chat. Just get her now!”
She heard the phone hit the desk as the lady rushed from
the room. Thirty seconds elapsed.
“I’m sorry Sir, I mean Ma’am. I couldn’t catch her. Someone
called and said they would meet her at the Big Child’s Toy Store in Pilot’s Mall.
“Damn,” Visara mumbled as she hung up.
“Good help sure is still hard to find.”
Visara drove the car around the corner and picked up Sienna. “Your mother’s at Pilot’s Mall,” Visara told her as the tires
were spinning.
“When we get to the Mall, you head directly for the mall
office on the third floor and wait for me. I’ll go to the Big Child’s Toy store and search for Jennifer. No matter how long it takes you stay in the office and wait for me. Got it?”
“Got it.”
They pulled into the mall parking lot, and Visara searched frantically for a parking space.
Screeeccchhh! She slammed on the brakes as a Chevy backed out into her path.
“I’ve got to slow down. About to lose it. What the hell. I can’t slow down. Jennifer is about to lose it.”
Screeccchhh! She spun into the parking space now vacant.
