“Why did Corin pick you as the one to produce this software for him, especially after you were the one responsible for losing his baby girl?”
“Believe me I have asked myself that same question, and the only thing I could think of is revenge.”
“If revenge is all he wanted,” Marcus pointed out, “he could have capped your ass after the fact and been done with it.”
“Good point,” Tom agreed, “but Corin is a shrewd character. He wants you to suffer as he does if you ever hurt him. He al- lowed me to think I was doing something as a reprieve for losing Tina. And since he knew I needed help, involving my friends fit the bill.”
“That way, he could kill them before he killed you, Seige concluded, “knowing he had hurt you before he killed you.”
“I truly believe that was the plan, Tom confirmed.
“How do your friends fit in?”
“What do you mean? I explained that.”
“I mean, did they start out as bad guys too?”
“No, and they aren’t bad guys now. They are just good guys
that I worked with a while back and never forgot. I went to them to save my ass and they pitched in to do it, thinking I could get all of us out later. And I would have, I think.”
Seige got up and left the room again.
“The girls should be here afterwhile,” Visara remarked, catch- ing Seige leaving the room.
“Fine. Go to the dining room and help with the coordination for the operations order.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Seige,” Quincy called, “I’ve just finished interrogating the rest of Tom’s crew, and I don’t think they’re part of the big pic- ture. Just some brains being used that were about to be disposed of.”
“I suspected as much,” Seige offered. “Where is your re- port?
“Right here.”
