“Anything else?” Seige pressed.
“No,” Doug replied.
“Okay, Sky,” Seige said.
“Well, before all of that happened, the security team also
noticed what looked like several people doing something with the mailbox. We’re not sure what it was, but it was a clue that we were in the right area. We didn’t get a chance to check it out because things started to happen pretty fast. I suspect there may be more to it than we think.
“Did it look like the people could have been putting in and removing something from the mailbox?” Seige probed.
“Possibly. But standing in front of the box as they did made it really hard to tell.”
“What set the van on fire?”
“I changed to armor-piercing incendiaries. It only took a sec- ond.”
“From your vantage point, did you see anything special hap- pen before the van rounded the curve?”
“Not a thing.” “So you gonna tell us what happened in the barbecue pit?”
“Everyone laughed. Seige smiled.
“I’ll tell em boss,” said Doug. “Both of us came through the house going from room to room. Nothing! I think both of us were surprised to see each other so soon as we got to the center. Seige looked up suddenly and grabbed me a second before we went through the window. I still don’t know what the hell he saw, but I’m glad he did. Otherwise, we’d be crispy critters. Of course that hedgerow cut us up pretty good, but I can deal with the cuts. I’m just damn glad to still be alive. What did you see, Seige?”
“No rear security whatsoever. Once on the inside, the cam- era let me know it was a setup. The way things went I have no idea what the hell they were really planning. There are two things each of us should have learned from this operation tonight. First, there is an insider somewhere because someone knew we were going to be there.
