“Now is probably the best time as any to tell you this. Of all the lessons I learned in Vietnam, I need to share this one, al- though it’s not encouraging. One of the harsh realities of combat is that you can get killed doing everything right! Let that sink in for a minute. Now ask yourself how many mistakes you can af- ford to make. I know its not a comforting thought and it shouldn’t be regardless of the mission. I know you’ve only heard the stan- dard stuff about the drug, Blue Heaven, so let me bring you up to date. Blue Heaven is now considered the most dangerous drug we know. You can take it by mouth or intravenously, like many other drugs. And it is now considered a super hallucinogen. We have discovered that when people get addicted to it not only do they think they can do fantastic feats, but the drug acts on the brain in a manner that makes them feel they can.
“Are you saying . . . ?”
“Exactly! That if you feel like you can stop a car, your brain will allow you to think and feel that you can. Even with a certain amount of pain, which your body will suppress, you may not realize your folly until you are unconscious or dead. That means the users may be just as dangerous to others as they are to thems . . .”
Visara interrupted him: “I need to see you a second.” “What’s up,” Stick? “Sorry,” he said.”
“I don’t think he is going to make it. The bullet he was shot
with was a hot-load 44 magnum hollow point, and he wasn’t that far away. The shock and internal damage to his system is too great. We need to move him now; we may not make it to the hospital.”
Seige turned from the door and shouted to the security team: “Security team let’s move now!”
Visara led the two men to the bedroom. The rest of the group had eyes agape hoping their comrade was okay. But all suspected the truth. The two men from the security team left
