ARCHITECTURE DESIGN PRINCIPLE - EMPHASIS

Emphasis principle deals with the parts of a design
that are meant to stand out. Emphasis principle will
convey the important part of the design. The part

that stand out will be the main attraction in
emphasis approach of design. Emphasis can also be

used to reduce the impact of certain information.
This is most apparent in instances where “fine
print” is used for ancillary information in a design.

Tiny typography tucked away at the bottom of a
page carries much less weight than almost anything Figure 41 : Sample of emphasis approach

else in a design, and is therefore deemphasized.

Emphasis is defined as an area or object within

the concept created that draws attention and
becomes a focal point. Subordination is defined as

minimizing or toning down other compositional
elements in order to bring attention to the focal
point. Therefore, the main attraction element is the

focal point of the composition emphasis principle
          design approach.
