a pregnant woman who breaks the fast due to fear of harm to her own health and the health of her baby (which is a part of her) and that of a nursing woman who is not breaking the fast due to fear. The baby is no longer physically a part of the mother and she has the option of hiring a wet nurse if she is not able to fast while nursing. The majority of the scholars do not agree with this opinion because there is no evidence of differentiation between the traveler, the pregnant woman, and the nursing mother.Which opinion is best to follow? It is best to follow the opinion of the majority of the scholars, which is:Make up the missed days only with no need to pay fidya; this is for both the pregnant or nursing woman. If a woman has more than one month of missed fasts due to consecutive pregnancy and can not fast the missed days, what should she do?In the case where a woman has several accumulated months of missed fasts, then the minority opinion of her needing to only pay the fidya without making up the days can be adopted. If a woman has already paid the fidya on previous fasts without making up the days and she is now able to fast, what does she need to do?It is preferable for her to make up the days so she can avoid the difference of opinion of the scholars who deem it necessary for her to make up the missed fasts. If a woman wants to be safe from the difference of opinion of the scholars, which is the most cautious opinion she should take? She should make up the days that are missed due to pregnancyShe should both make up the days and pay a fidya for days that are missed due to nursing.Copyright %u00a9 2023 Islamic Association of Raleigh.
