CIGARS
Overview
This course is conducted by a Hunters & Frankau training manager and provides students with an intermediate level of cigar knowledge. The course explores both historical and commercial aspects of the cigar industry and imparts students with sound product knowledge on the different brands as well as how to properly maintain, cut and smoke a cigar.
Course outline
This one-day course is split into two sections. The  rst half of the day runs through the historical aspect of the Cuban cigar industry and agricultural element of the manufacturing process. This includes farming and harvesting techniques, how the leaves are treated and the different characteristics of the leaves used in the construction of a Habanos. It also covers the UK cigar market trends, including most popular sizes, brands and production methods. The different types of cigars available in the U.K. are also explored, as well as the anatomy of different types of cigars.
The focus on the second half of the day is on the commercial aspect of the industry and what is done with the  nal product, the cigar. Different brands, shapes,  avours and styles of Cuban cigars are discussed, as are the different packs and packaging on offer. Vitola de Galera and Salidas are also explored. Students are also taught how to cut, light and smoke, as well as how to store and recommend cigars. It is also during this part of the course
that Regional Editions, Limited Editions, Reservas and Grand Reservas and the UK Aged Habanos concepts are explained. Finally the importance of EMS (English Market Selection) is explained.
Price
The course is €400, including all training materials. The minimum number of students is four.
ACCOUNTING
Overview
Especially designed for the industry’s heads of department, this two-day intensive accounting course will arm students with the knowledge and con dence to correctly and ef ciently administer their accounts.
Course outline
Delegates work their way through the key principles of accounting and the speci c procedures relating to the administration of cash, credit cards and purchases. The two-day course is packed with theoretical learning, multiple exercises and group discussion. Delegates will gain the con dence and ability to succeed in new roles or take a fresh approach to existing roles in an increasingly demanding yachting industry.
