I learned how professional riders prepa-
re for their shows, and observed how the
best horses in the world are cared for.
Also, this process would not have been
                                      possible without Margreet Voermans, a
Dutch veterinarian who has allowed me
to visit her equine hospital several times,
has taught me the basics of equine health,
and has allowed me to attend conferences
                                      with international veterinarians who spe-
                                      cialize in equine healthcare.

This book is the result of deep research
and fifteen years of experience. It is a gui-
de with six key points that I consider to be the most important for
those who are thinking of purchasing a show jumping or dressage
horse. Throughout this book, you will find different stories that I
have witnessed during my career as a rider to make this guidebook
original and more interesting to read. This guidebook is written
in a friendly and conversational tone to make your approach to
the information provided easier. My narration is complemented
by the narration of a very special character, my horse, Magnus.
He will be in charge of telling you stories and giving you his point
of view. In this book, you will also find pictures, drawings and
checklists that will help you acquire a better understanding of the
            recommendations offered throughout the book.

In the first chapter, you will find out about the physical and
emotional benefits that owning a horse will bring into your life.
Next, I will explain the realities and the commitment of purchas-
ing a horse as you have to take into account that a horse is a living
being that is going to depend one hundred percent on you. In the
third chapter, I am going to provide you with the best tips to keep
in mind to find the horse that best suits your goals. Once you have
purchased your horse, you will have to think about buying all his
equipment, so in the fourth chapter I will show you everything
you should buy for your new equine partner. In the fifth chapter, I
