Dressage saddles are designed in a
way that allows you to sit in a deeper
seat, so you can have a closer contact
with your horse and have a better posi-
tion. Their flap is long and straight, and
their girth straps are long, so you can use
a short girth that’s not going to bother
your legs in any way. Dressage saddles
force you to get your legs in a good posi-
tion. Their design allows you to be more
precise, and feel the movements of your
                                               horse (Johnson, 2010).

Jumping saddles have a flatter seat, and are
designed with a slightly forward-facing seat
that encourages you to get into the jump po-
sition more easily. They have shorter flaps
that allow you to have shorter stirrups, and
change position from forward seat to balan-
ced seat. Jumping saddles also have knee rolls
that give you more stability, and hold on hard
with your legs during jumps (Johnson, 2010)

No matter what kind of saddle you buy,
make sure it includes three girth straps and
                           stirrup leather in both sides.
