            Pad

A pad is a cushion that goes between the
saddle and the saddle pad, that helps dis-
tribute and adjust the rider and saddle’s
weight on the horse’s back. Pads come in
different materials such as foam, memory
foam, and gel. Some pads lift parts of the
saddle to protect the horse’s back from the
saddle, and help correct minor issues of
            your saddle. However, always remember
that no matter the material or quality, no
pad is going to protect your horse from a
saddle that doesn’t fit your horse.

            Girth

Girths are essential as they keep the sadd-
le in place on the horse’s back. There are
two main categories of girths: long girths
that are designed for jumping saddles, and
short girths that are used for dressage sadd-
les. Girths are made out of different ma-
terials such as leather, nylon or neoprene,
and are available in different styles and si-
zes. Choosing the right girth for your horse
depends on your discipline, how your hor-
se moves, your horse’s sensitivity in the gir-
thing area, and sometimes even allergies.
