                   Editing Process

                       • A member of the department sends me a manuscript, usually with a journal in mind,
but can also ask me to research journal possibilities.
                       • I run all manuscripts through iThenticate and send the report back to the
department member, letting him/her know if the report/manuscript is ok or not. If
not, I make suggestions on how to improve the paper. I send the iThenticate User
Guide if he/she is unfamiliar with the process.
                       • Once a journal is decided on, I use that journal’s Author Instructions/Guidelines and
edit the paper according to that journal’s particular style.

                       • In addition to the Author Instructions, I reference a printed version of whatever type
of manuscript it is (from a pdf online or an actual copy of the journal I may have) to
make sure I am formatting the manuscript as correctly as possible.
                       • I edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation, readability, consistency, and
generally…does it make sense? I add my edits and comments using Track Changes
and send it back to the department member so that he/she can address the
edits/comments. We go back and forth until a final version is reached.

                       • Editing References, Tables, and Figures can take a lot of reformatting and has to be
very specific; tables often have to be copied from Excel files into Word documents
and re-worked, and figures have to be sent out to Kendra to be fixed or created from
                          scratch.

The average turnaround time for completion of a manuscript is two to four weeks. If you
need work back in a shorter amount of time, please e-mail or call me so that we can
make other arrangements. I do my very best to work with everyone in the department

to meet specific needs. Don’t hesitate to ask for what you need.
