What are the Fruits of Holy Communion?
If we are in the “state of grace” when we receive Holy Communion, have an open heart
and are intentional in our desire and efforts to grow as a Christian, then our reception of
Holy Communion:
Increases our union with Christ (CCC 1391) The Lord said, “He who eats my
flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him” (John 6:56).
Nourishes our soul (CCC 1392) Communion with the flesh of the Risen
Christ...preserves, increases, and renews the life of grace received in Baptism.
Growth in the Christian life needs the nourishment of the Eucharist. It is the bread
for our pilgrimage until the moment of death.
Holy Communion separates us from sin (CCC 1393) The Eucharist cannot unite
us to Christ without at the same time cleansing us past sins and preserving us from
future mortal sins.
Strengthens our Charity (CCC 1394) (Charity = God’s love poured into our
hearts - Romans 5:5) As bodily nourishment restores lost strength, so the Eucharist
strengthens our charity which tends to be weakened in daily life.
Preserves us from future mortal sins (CCC 1395)
The Eucharist commits us to the poor (CCC 1397)
