Candi Sumbernanas is located about two kilometers away from Candi
Kalicilik, Blitar Regency. The temple is known by two different names, some call it
Candi Sumbernanas, others call it Candi Bubrah. The name Candi Sumbernanas is
associated with its location in a pineapple plantation. While, the name Candi Bubrah
is associated with its condition when it was discovered (bubrah: Javanese) means
in badly damaged condition. Candi Sumbernanas was discovered in 1919, during a
landslide caused by Mount Kelud eruptions, only its foundation and scattered stones
remained. There is also remnants of masonry brick pit, sumuran, of the temple.
