                                  1.2.5 CNI-MU ALERT MESSAGES
                                                                                                             ACAWS

The CNI-MS and mission computer generate text messages which are
displayed on the CNI-MU scratch pad and will activate the CNI-MU GROUND
MSG ACAWS. These messages are based on the status monitoring
of the systems on the left and right COMM/NAV buses and also as a
result of incorrect CNI-MU keyboard entries. Scratch pad messages are TAKEOFF
cleared by pressing the CLR key on the CNI-MU, or when the CNI-SP
determines the condition no longer exists. When more than one scratch
pad message is active, the CLR key is used to suppress the currently FIRE/SMK
NORM displayed item and allow the next active message to be displayed.

Successive presses of the CLR key allow all active messages to be PRES/OXY
                                    NOT FOR FLIGHT
                        displayed in priority order.

                                                                                                           ENG/PROP
The CNI-MU messages are grouped in three categories (unlike
ACAWS); cautions, system advisories and operational advisories.
Caution messages indicate the existence of a hazardous or impending FUEL
hazardous condition requiring attention, but not necessarily immediate

attention for routine purposes. Operational advisories indicate improper
SPEC operation of the CNI-MS. There are no format differences between ELEC
scratch pad cautions and advisories. Cautions have the highest priority
and operational advisories have the lowest priority.
                                                                                                               HYD
The following table provides a summary of the CNI-MU messages
generated by the CNI-SP and MC. Within the table, * indicates a
related ACAWS Advisory is generated and ** indicates a related FLT CTRL
ACAWS Caution is generated. These Cautions and Advisories do not
relate directly to ACAWS Cautions and Advisories, although there are GEAR
instances where both a CNI-MU scratch pad message and an ACAWS
                        message are generated.
