1.10.9 BIU BACKUP MODE PROCEDURES

After entering the BIU Backup mode, the crew will use the following
checklist instead of the Normal procedures. The following checklist is

unique operational requirements in BIU Backup mode.

The ATCS system is inoperative. Do not set power on the
NORM outboard engines above 2,350 HP unless airspeed is
above 160 KIAS or above minimum power restoration speed. PRES/OXY
NOT FOR FLIGHT
The Special Alert for the stall warning and stick pusher
systems do not operate in the BIU Backup mode. Maintain ENG/PROP
adequate margin above published stall speeds. As a
guide, do not slow below the recommended approach
speed. Stalls without a stick pusher may result in high FUEL
roll off bank angles and excessive altitude loss.
The Special Alerts for sideslip angle and rudder do AAR
not operate in the BIU Backup mode. Avoid intentional
sideslip, except when necessary for crosswind landings.
SPEC Excessive sideslip can lead to rudder overbalance and ELEC
is most likely to occur at high horsepower settings with

CAUTION
FLT CTRL
Cabin altitude cannot be monitored in the BIU Backup
mode except for the CAB ALT HIGH (C) ACAWS. If this GEAR
Caution is displayed, comply with the ACAWS crew action.
Consider descending to a lower altitude if practical.

If BIU backup mode occurs while transmitting on an
ICS CONTROL panel, the selected radio will freeze LANDING
in the transmit mode. If reception is lost and the radio
is suspected of continuously transmitting, pull and
reset the ICS CSU/HIU ECB Ident No. 110) situation DITCHING
permitting. This will clear the stuck transmitter. All ICS
communications will be suspended during the reset.
