knot parts spiral in opposite directions, as opposed to the granny knot, both of w hose half-
knots are tied in the same direction. (The granny knot mnemonic is: left over right and
under, left over right and under.)
Take the two ends of a
I piece of cord and bring
them together, crossing the left-
hand end over the right-hand
one.
Tie a half-knot by passing

and back up over the right-
hand end.
Bring the ends together
