cal power, anchored in Europe and the Mediterranean area,
and led by the Antichrist. Daniel also saw this tenfold com-
bination of power (7:24). (It is fascinating to compare the
visions of Daniel and John, so many centuries apart, yet
with so much in common.)
So we have a ten-nation confederacy in Europe and the
Mediterranean area at the time of the Antichrist.
Hal Lindsey says flatly, "We believe that the Common
Market and the trend toward unification of Europe may
well be the beginning of the ten-nation confederacy pre-
1
dicted by Daniel and the Book of Revelation."
Since the publication of Lindsey's book, meetings have
been held about the extension of the Common Market to
include ten nations. The setting: Rome.
The apparently fatal wound, spoken of in Revelation
13:13, is a masterwork of good publicity for the Antichrist.
It appears, from Revelation 13:14, that the Antichrist him-
self suffers a mortal wound, and then is miraculously resur-
rected. It is not a case of a serious wound healing up, but
more of a "coming back to life" as described in the Scrip-
ture.
This counterfeits the resurrection of our Lord and es-
tablishes the Antichrist's power overnight.
We can imagine the possibility of an assassination at-
tempt on the Antichrist, political assassinations having the
vogue they do these days. The tremendous display of emo-
tion and grief that will be exhibited when the Antichrist is
cut down will only be exceeded by the astonishment when
he comes right back up.
For impact, Lindsey considers what the world reaction
would be if President John F. Kennedy were to reappear
suddenly on the political scene, "recovered" from his tragic
assassination.
