Why is this important?

1. Spain at this time was the dominant world sea power and colonizer in
the New World.

2. Roman Catholicism was the dominant European state religion in Spain,
France, and England. Later Oliver Cromwell was reputed to say,

“Catholicism is more than a religion; it is a political power.”

3. Spain’s toleration for change was…..zero.

4. The forecast in the early 1500’s was for Georgia to become an

exclusively Spanish and Roman Catholic Colony.

5. But something was brewing in England that was about to change all of

that!
