Himself. We must do the same to our wives if our love toward them is to be comparable to that of Christ to His church.
HE CONTINUES TO WATCH OVER US. Although Jesus finished the work that His Father sent Him to do long ago, yet He continues to watch over us while we are here on earth. Knowing that we will not immediately go to heaven, He made provision for our safety on earth pending when we leave the earth. For example, He told Peter in Matthew 16:16-18 that He will build His church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it while it remains here.
Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Matthew 16:16-18
That means that the church will survive every onslaught of the enemy against its emergence and growth for as long as the earth
