The strategic objectives of the Directorate of Estates and Infrastructure Planning is to expand on existing
academic and administrative facilities. Financial constrains experienced in the country for the two previous
reporting years have affected the implementation of UNAM’s expansion plans, posing serious challenges to
projects already under construction. During the reporting period, the financial situation did not appear to be
recovering and remains a major concern on executing strategic objectives.
Despite the financial challenges, the Directorate continued to strategically prioritize management of
maintenance and optimisation of the life cycle of UNAM’s assets in accordance with the business needs of the
university. This included compilation and continuous reviews of various maintenance plans with special focus on
critical service delivery such as lecture halls, administrative buildings and student hostels.
Landscaping and overall gardening continues receiving priority instilling a sense of pride and a welcoming
university to all students and visitors throughout the country. In addition, improvements of establishing state-of-
the-art security interventions and monitoring systems also remains high priority.
