TEARS OF SUFFERING
Samphel cleared his throat and said, “What would you
give me if I topped the class?”
Ama sighed deeply. “Why would you want a gift? You
have had enough of them.”
“I would give you anything you want,” said Doctor. “But
not an expensive gift.”
“Well,” said Ama. “I would buy you a buray gho.”
“What’s that?” asked Samphel, arms crossed.
“That’s an expensive gho,” said Ama. “That can be your
best bib and tucker, meaning you could wear it on special
occasions.”
“I don’t need that,” said Samphel. “Why don’t’ you—”
“Ugyen, do you want to go to school, Ugyen?” said Ama.
Everyone stared at Ugyen, appreciating Ama’s deep sense
of realization, but Ugyen remained silent, shrugging his
shoulder.
Samphel sighed a great relief. “Sorry I haven’t thought
about that before. You can join me next year. Are you
going to school or not?”
“I will reach you to your school every morning,” said
Ama.
