Personnel Manual: Revision of the manual was finally completed, printed and disseminated at the
year’s end.
Personnel Practices: Though the Governance Council had approved funds to hiring a consultant to
advise on best practices for personnel management for WCUCC, Jan Lilja volunteered to serve in that
role beginning July 1. Her help has been significant.
Staff Appreciation: On behalf of the Governance Council the Committee continues to have birthday
cards sent to staff on their day as well as providing a luncheon for all in the Spring. A process for
instituting possible bonuses for staff for outstanding work was proposed to the Governance Committee
at their request.
Continuing Projects
Annual Performance Reviews: 1) A process to assure that annual reviews are held for independent
contractors needs to continue to be implemented going forward. 2)Being sure that the manual is
disseminated and used will be a major objective of the Committee.
Personnel Manual: Being sure that the manual is disseminated and used will be a major objective of
the Committee.
Personnel Practices: We expect to see the completion of updating the personnel files, the
development of Operations Manual, and the institution of effective personnel management practices in
2017 pending Governance Council approval of a personnel administrative plan.
Staff Appreciation: Overseeing the proper implementation of an approved meritorious service award
process, the continuation of the birthday cards, and the holding the annual appreciation luncheon will
Committee tasks.
The members of the Personnel Committee at the start of 2016 were Beth Hayes, John Hatch (Chair), Jessica
Brown and Greg Perla. Jessica Brown resigned from the committee in the Fall because of other
commitments; her comments and secretarial services were sorely missed. Jan Lilja joined the Committee as
a representative of the Governance Council in mid-year and upon her retirement from her employment as a
personnel expert. Her knowledge and skills are much appreciated.
Arts Committee
George Singleton, Chair
During 2016 we held two exhibitions. The first was an All – Church exhibition and
involved several art genres and among others, included works by Alton Frye, Sarah
Faith Frye, Martell Galloway, Mitchell Wooten, Carol Mabry and some amazing work
by children and other members of the church family.
The second exhibition featured the work of Judith Smith. I’m sure those of you who
saw her works were amazed with the artful designs and colors she used to
transform her photographs into stunning works of art.
For 2017, because of Building 2020 construction, we plan for only one exhibition which
will take place in the March to April timeframe. You may remember the beautiful work of
fabric artist Ann Harwell and her quilts. We discovered that Ann has a small collection of
quilts that feature flowers, so we have invited Ann to exhibit her beautiful work again.
