by embracing and accepting both of the ways
in which we experience the world, and
accepting ourselves as being part of it. We
human beings tend to forget that that our
highly developed facility of logical thinking, of
reason and intellect, is really just a kind of
evolutionary after-thought. The uniquely
human facility of word-making, by which we
set so much store, is located in the 'new' brain
- the cerebral cortex - that sits in our skulls just
above eye-level. The cortex also co-ordinates
the motor and sensory functions of the central
nervous system - directs, that is, the body to
deliberate action. The feeling function is
completely different to thinking - a purely
emotional way of interpreting the world. It’s a
value based, empathetic and heartfelt way of
looking at things, that mediates what’s going
on in the world around us according to very
basic assessments of pain versus pleasure,
pleasant versus unpleasant. It’s only the
somatic polarity of our existential duality that
