Saint Katharine Drexel Mission Center and National Shrine

Owner/User: Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament

Location: Bensalem, Pennsylvania
Design Statement: Lee A. Casaccio, AIA, while principal of
Casaccio Architects, LLC, served as associated architect for
the design of the Saint Katharine Drexel National Shrine
which welcomed thousands of guests each year to pray, eat,
relax, and learn about Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters
of the Blessed Sacrament. In keeping with the mission of the
Sisters, the center celebrates the accomplishments of Black
and Native American people through furniture, artifacts,
and graphic displays. Mr. Casaccio’s design team developed
campus improvements including additions and renovations
to create the new Welcome Center. Arcaded walkways
connect the Welcome Center with the National Shrine, which
holds Saint Katharine’s entombed remains. The Welcome
Center also includes a covered bus drop-off area, lobby, and
gift shop, as well as an auditorium, and conference center to
accommodate larger educational events and gatherings with
related administrative support. The project was completed
in collaboration with Blitch Knevel Architects.
