Impact on poverty and

                      economic development

A recent impact study on the cost to victims of a conflict of going to a facilitator or holding

a trial showed abysmal differences. The study compares the same type of case for the

same type of people in various Central American countries.

Two-thirds of those who go to a facilitator solve the case the same day without cost; if

there are costs are much lower. In contrast, half of those who went to trial for the same

type of case had to wait more than a year for their resolution; at the trial spent an avera-

ge of eight months of family income.

Even more serious is that this expense was financed by the sale of assets and / or the in-

                      debtedness of the victim.
