PRESSURES AND COPING MECHANISMS IN THE USE OF INFORMATION
                  AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY IN INSTRUCTION
                                   JEFFREY O. TORRALBA

The study aimed to determine the pressures and coping mechanisms of teachers in the
use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in instruction, including the success
levels of the coping mechanisms. The first sub-problem of the study dealt on the profile of the
teacher-respondents. The second sub-problem of the study dealt on the pressures encountered
by the teacher-respondents in the use of ICT in instruction. The third sub-problem pertains
to the pressure coping mechanisms being applied by the teacher-respondents. The fourth
sub-problem concerns to the significant difference between the pressures encountered by the
teacher-respondents across their profile variables. The fifth sub-problem dealt with the significant
difference between the coping mechanisms applied by the teacher-respondents across their
selected profile variables. The sixth sub-problem pertains to the significant relationship between
the pressures encountered by the teacher-respondents in the use of ICT in instruction and the
pressure coping mechanisms applied. The seventh sub-problem dealt with the success levels of
the pressure coping mechanisms applied to deal with the pressures encountered by the teacher-
respondents in the use of ICT in instruction.
The respondents are relatively varied in terms of the profile variables. The teacher-
respondents are pressured in terms of the over-all pressures encountered in the use of ICT
in instruction. Seeking online help is the most common pressure coping mechanism used by
the teacher-respondents to address the pressures. The teachers who have undergone trainings
in relation to ICT more than 10 times experience less pressure encountered in using ICT in
instruction. Teachers who have attended more than 16 times and above trainings in relation to
ICT applies less pressure coping mechanism as compared to the other respondent who attended
lesser than 16 trainings. The over-all pressure coping mechanisms applied by the teacher-
respondents is moderately successful in terms of success level.
The study recommended that Teachers’ competency assessment should be initiated
and categorize the teachers according to their level of competency. An enhancement training
corresponding to their level of competency should be organized. Instrumental planning session
is encourage to further address the individual needs of learners’ in the use of ICT in instruction.
Engagement to professional practices related to ICT is encouraged in partnership with ICT
industries and service providers. Strict implementation of Republic Act 9155 (An Act Instituting
for Basic Education, Establishing Authority and Accountability, Renaming the Department of
Education, Culture and Sports as Department of Education, and for other Purposes) in the use
of ICT facilities in the school. Operationalize Professional Learning Action Cell Session focusing
in the use of ICT in instruction. Incentive rewards are encouraged.
