DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF WORKBOOK IN SCIENCE 3

This study is concerned with the development and validation of a workbook for Science
Grade III of the Schools Division of Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, SY 2015-2016.
The need assessment included a survey of the instructional materials in teaching
Science III in terms of their availability. Topics included in the workbook were aligned to the
objectives of the K to 12 Basic Education Program. Lessons in the workbook were presented
as follows: objectives, content, illustrations/examples and evaluative exercises. The proposed
workbook was validated and reviewed by teachers and school administrators who are experts in
Grade III Curriculum.
The findings indicate that: 1) The status of instructional materials in teaching Science
III particularly workbook was found “not adequate” 2) workbook in Science III was proposed to
address the need to supplement the existing materials used in teaching the subject with the aim
to enhance the level of performance of pupils in Science. The proposed workbook comes with a
lesson listing the major topics covered in the lesson. These topics correspond to the subsection
titles that can be used as easy reference for students/pupils. Further, each lesson comes with
a “test yourself” exercise for skill building and check-up of students’ progress 3) The proposed
workbook in Science II was found to be highly adequate, highly suitable, and highly relevant for
Grade III pupils with overall weighted means of 4.93, 4.91 and 4.95 respectively.
In the light of the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Workbook in
Science III in Urdaneta City Division is insufficient 2) workbook in Science III was proposed
3) The proposed workbook in Science III met the criteria in terms of adequacy, suitability and
relevance.
Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations were formulated
1) The proposed workbook in Science III is recommended for use in the Schools Division of
Urdaneta 2) Grade III teachers are encouraged to develop instructional materials in other
learning area to enrich the teaching process 3) more development type research should be
made to augment the existing instructional materials in the different learning areas to improve
pupils academic performance.
