 4. As a team member, what strengths do you think you brought to your team's project?
As a part of the video team, I pushed my team to be creative and test our limits, and also encouraged our team to be more clear about the message we are attempting to send out. At first our message seemed too neutral, and not clarified through our video ideas. After creating our final microaggression video, I think that our message because more transparent and impactful.
Even though we only came out with three videos, the ideas that led up to those videos were crucial to determine what our final project would be. First, we planned to do a What Now video in which we would describe what happened with blackface last quarter, and then discuss what is going on now through interviews. However, that video then transcribed to become a video about political correctness at Cal Poly. We had material from our interviews that we had planned to use for a What Now video, and cut those interviews up to find the footage that was most helpful to establishing a strong message that parallels with the goals of Mustang in the Room, to have an open conversation about diversity issues on campus, and to create a culture of unity. I helped Robbie to cut clips in order to make our political correctness stance much more easy to understand, as at first it was slightly vague. With our final microaggression video, I helped Robbie to formulate ideas on how to include the whole class in the video so that it would be more personal and tied to a class at Cal Poly. Our final video really expressed the real stories and struggles of students here at Cal Poly, and gave an ending with a positive message; to listen to others about how your words make them feel.
I also believe that I was very determined to complete our work in a timely fashion and tried my best to get my team together to do what we needed to in order to meet our deadlines. Although deadlines changed, we worked our hardest to create quality material to present to the class for review and then to be later shared via social media.
5. What do you think you could have been done better in creating your project? (Ideas: more research, a better understanding the technology, more time spent with your team coordinating and organizing the project, better communication with the other teams, etc.)
There were a few things that I wish my team could have done better in the creation of this project. First of all, I think that my team had unreasonable expectations of the time that we had to complete this project. We came into the project very excited and passionate, so we overestimated our capabilities in the time that we had due to the fact that we were all busy with other classes and working outside of that. Although we wished we could have created more short form media clips, we did not realize just how much work goes into making each individual video. Similarly, I also think we could have communicated with other teams more. One of our collaboration ideas was to team up with Alejandra to
